GWRDC Regional

GWRDC Regional is a program that funds regionally specific extension and adoption activities in Australian wine regions. Launched in January 2009, it replaces the GWRDC's two previous regional programs - Regional Innovation and Technology Adoption (RITA) and Regional Development Initiative (RDI) - and was developed to ensure extension funds spent in regional areas achieve maximum impact through the development of strategic extension and adoption plans.

Approximately $725,000, or about 3-4% of GWRDC's total funding pool, is set aside for GWRDC Regional each year. Funding is allocated based on regional production. Regions with the highest production (which therefore contribute higher statutory R&D levy payments) receive a greater proportion of the available funding. Smaller regions are clustered together to allow a practical amount of funding to be provided for extension and adoption activities.
